The Platinum features a new snap-on lid to prevent accidental removal, a pre-filter to catch any large particles before they reach the motor, and a submersible pump for nearly silent operation. "Scares my cats" 2010-06-20
By Tedi Ringel (Bayside, NY)
I replaced my older drinkwell with the platinum model (since it got good reviews). My cats loved the old fountain & I thought this would be an upgrade. The required water level is too high for them. They like some more space on top. A couple have difficulty judging the water level. Also, when the level goes down (even a little), the tank dispenses more water & this gurgles & also scares them. I (they) much prefer the regular drinkwell.

"Let the Cocktail Hour Begin!" 2010-06-20
By Julia Andrews (Peoria, Illinois)
I mulled over the purchase of this automated drinking fountain for several months, as the automated cat litter pan was a dismal failure a few years back. The cats (3 adults)loved to play in the litter pan and make it operate, but simply refused to pooh in it. Would the same thing happen with the automated water fountain? Apparently not. They are not afraid of it but totally ignore it in my presence. Were they drinking out of it? The kitchen faucet was no longer 'magically' turned on during the night so they must be using it. I finally saw a few cat hairs in it with a small play toy. They aren't dehydrated or begging for water. As an added bonus it has helped divert their trips on the kitchen counter when we are not in the room as there is no more unexplained "thuds".

As the fountain is in the laundry room (where they are also fed) I don't notice any motor noise, but I do like the sound of the running water. I use filtered drinking water in it that we also use. It holds enough liquid to easily water my 3 hoodlums without going dry for 24 hours or more. It doesn't seem to get as dirty as I had expected it would from the cat hair. You really don't need the mat (unless you are placing it on laminate or tile which may carry sound more)as splash outside the fountain is minimal at least at this house. If the motor sound does bother you, go to a discount store and purchase a coco fiber mat.

So a month after being in use I have to say the fountain is a success! Any moment I expect them to request a cocktail hour, after all, let's not fool ourselves we are just 'the staff'.

"Too Loud!" 2010-06-18
By D. Rands (Tejas)
My cats are afraid of it. They both love drinking out of the running sink but they won't go near this fountain. It's so loud, I have to keep the laundry door closed at all times (it has a kitty door) to be able to watch TV 2 rooms away. It's ridiculous! Whomever engineered this obviously doesn't have cats nor do they care about quality. It is very inexpensive and easy to build a simple and quiet water pump these days so there is no excuse for this. It's going back! So unfortunate.

"Happy Cat" 2010-06-14

This works great. Our cat drinks way more water than before and cleaning the fountain is really simple. Wish we had purchased this sooner.

"Great product, humming a tad loud" 2010-06-12
By Eddie Dhabolt (Western CO)
I'm glad I purchased this water dispenser for the sake of cleaner & aerated water for my cats. They were a little wary of the humming it produced, but I think their thirst overcame their apprehension. Eventually it just becomes another hum like the refrigerator or computer, blending into the background. I think since it's on my tile floor, I could place it on a small piece of thin dense foam (like the ones used in exercise routines) and the hum would be unnoticeable. With the added tank on the backside, the supply is ample, and I'm glad for the charcoal filters to rid their water of slime which was typical of their other water bowl that had stagnant water. I would definitely recommend this product.
