This is a really cool item, but there are a few things I didn't like about it.
* You have to fill it up way too much - part of the reason we wanted this was to have clean water constantly but were filling 2-3 times a day for our dog. It would probably be ok for a small pet.
* Another problem we had is that the flow would clog because of pet hair and it would have to be disassembled and cleaned quite a bit.
We ended up going back to teh regular bowl. I would recomment for cats or a small pet, but definitely not for a large one.

I have an older color since I noticed I can't find it. i have the blue. I've had it for a year now, and I've had to replace the pump once, and now again it needed a new one. Instead of paying the $15, I decided to pay $10 more for a new one. Because it's made of plastic, a sluggy buildup gets all over the product where the water sits. There also is the dry buildup/I can't think of what it's called. I try cleaning it w/ vinegar and water and let it run, but doesn't seem to do the trick. Running it through the dishwasher doesn't hurt it. If the water is low the noise will let you know. Overall my cats prefer the running water over a bowl. I'm suppose to receive this new one in a few days, I assume it will have the same issues, since it's not made of stainless steel. I don't understand why some colors are more expensive then others. But this is the cheapest I found.

I like this water fountain. It only gets loud when the water level gets low, so you fill it up and its quiet again. It's nice because it reminds you to fill it up. My cats love it and it has stayed clean. Its pretty easy to put together too. I would buy this again.

I purchased this product (medium size) from another website eight years ago. The product worked well and my six cats used it without any problems. The pump worked fine as long as it was regularly cleaned. The major drawback was that the bowl and its various parts were difficult to clean and even more so for me since I have well water and the mineral build up was particularly hard to remove. Then last week the electrical cord actually separated from the pump at the point of entry into the pump itself. I have several small and large water fountains which use pumps and have never had this happen before. But the pump did have some age on it so I began to search for a replacement. The original pump was a Jebao model PP-333-LV. However, the same model is now a different size and lacks the flow control valve. I checked the Jebao website, the Petmate website and many, many other websites in an attempt to find a compatible pump. I was successful only in wasting my time and elevating my blood pressure. The construction of the compartment for the pump is such that you must have the exact same size or it just won't work. It has to fit perfectly. I noticed that others who had commented on the same problem cobbled together parts from their old pump along with a new one with satisfactory results. I decided against this route and began to research other pet water fountains. After reading the comments accompanying each it became apparent that each had its own problems. So I decided to make my own. All you need is an aquarium circulating filter (I used the Tetra Whisper PF10, about $14), a large glass, stainless steel or ceramic bowl and some glass pebbles (optional). I had a beautiful antique crockery bowl lined in blue ceramic that was just collecting dust (5" deep by 9 1/4" diameter)which was perfect for the project because it has a 3" wide straight band around the top, like a clay flower pot, which holds the clip-on aquarium filter straight up without any shimming. A large straight sided glass salad bowl would also work beautifully. I added some polished glass beads in the bottom to catch the usual debris and it works like a charm - so easy to clean. Google "make your own pet fountain" for detailed instructions. And the best part, my cats love it. I gave this product one star because it's hard to clean, I could not find a replacement pump which fit and Petmate does not have online customer service to answer questions. My Petmate bowl is now in the plastic recycling bin.

I've owned this fountain for over a month now and love it. It is easy to clean and is small enough to "hide" in my living room and not be in the way. My cat is drinking much more water than before and seems to enjoy playing with the little water fall. You do need to refill the water often (the pump will make an audible noise when the water is low) but the fountain is great overall.
